Phoner

Talkroute pricing per plan and per user, with a priced Talkroute alternative

Talkroute pricing is $19 a month for Basic with 1 user, $39 for Plus with 3 users and $59 for Pro with 10 users, and each extra user, number or mailbox is $5 a month on any plan. Enterprise starts at 20 users and is priced by quote. Talkroute charges per account, not per person, and its pricing page says it adds no separate telecom taxes or Universal Service Fund charges. That makes it cheaper than Phoner at every team size we priced: a five-person office with a phone menu pays $49 a month at Talkroute against $85 billed yearly on Phoner Team. Phoner is the pick when you want recording with a built-in consent announcement and call analytics on the same tier as the phone menu.

The full ranked field is in the guide to the best VoIP for small business, entry pricing for every provider sits yearly against monthly in the business phone system comparison, and Phoner's plans are listed in plain dollars on the pricing page.

Where Talkroute is genuinely strong

Talkroute is one of the few phone systems in this category that does not price per seat. Basic includes one user, Plus three and Pro ten, and each extra user is $5 a month, so a ten-person office pays the same $59 as a five-person one. Every plan includes unlimited US and Canada calling, local or toll-free numbers, call forwarding to as many phones as you like, call stacking so callers never hit a busy signal, custom greetings, caller ID name, voicemail with transcription, video meetings for up to 100 people, Zapier, webhooks and an API. Support is a US team in Chicago, with email answered around the clock. Pro adds unlimited multi-level menus, three and four digit extensions, a company directory, automatic call recording with unlimited storage, scheduled forwarding and downloadable reports, and Talkroute signs a HIPAA business associate agreement from Pro up. The pricing page also says the monthly price is all-inclusive, with no separate line for telecom taxes or the federal Universal Service Fund.

Where Phoner fits

On price alone Talkroute wins, and we will not pretend otherwise: its bundled users make it cheaper than Phoner at every headcount we priced, and the gap grows with the team. Phoner is the better buy for a team that needs two things Talkroute keeps apart. The first is recording with a consent announcement built into the line, so callers hear it before the recording starts, on the same Team plan as the phone menu at $17 a seat billed yearly. Talkroute puts recording on Pro and tells customers to follow two-party consent rules themselves. The second is call analytics and a shared voicemail inbox for the whole team without moving up a tier; Talkroute holds reporting for Pro. If neither matters to you, buy Talkroute.

In practice the deciding features are usually the call recording with consent tools and IVR phone menu.

Competitor figures are public list prices and positioning as of 2026. Verify before buying.

Phoner's side of the table starts at $9/user/mo on the Starter plan and $17 on Team, with a 3-user minimum, the plan most small teams pick, both billed yearly, or $19 and $35 month to month. Extra local or toll-free numbers are a flat $5/number/mo. Where the two products tie on a row, the difference is usually how visibly the feature is built: see the call recording with consent tools page for exactly how Phoner does it.

List price Per account, not per seat

Talkroute pricing and plans with the users each one includes

Talkroute prints three prices and a quote tier. The price covers the whole account, and each plan includes a set number of user logins, numbers, mailboxes and texts. Anything above that is $5 a month per extra user, number or mailbox. Phoner's two main plans sit underneath for scale.

What Talkroute and Phoner cost at each team size with a phone menu

Because Talkroute bundles users into the plan, the useful comparison is the whole monthly bill at your headcount. Talkroute Plus is the cheapest plan with a phone menu; Pro is the plan with call recording. Phoner Team carries both. Above ten people, Talkroute Pro costs less than Plus, so check both rows.

The detail Worth knowing

What the Talkroute price actually buys

A user is a login, not a phone

Talkroute counts users as people who sign in to the apps and settings. Calls can forward to as many outside phone numbers as you want on any plan, so an office where three people log in and five cell phones ring still fits on Plus. That is why its bill grows so slowly with headcount, and why per-seat products look expensive next to it.

The phone menu starts on Plus

Basic at $19 has forwarding, greetings and voicemail but no menu and no simultaneous ring. Plus at $39 adds one menu with up to ten single-digit options, simultaneous ring, live transfer and business hours. Pro at $59 makes menus unlimited and multi-level and adds three and four digit extensions and a dial-by-name directory. Price the tier that has the menu you need.

Recording and reports are Pro features

Automatic recording of inbound and outbound calls, with unlimited storage at no extra charge, is on Pro and Enterprise only, and so are downloadable reports and scheduled forwarding. Talkroute's help pages recommend following two-party consent rules on every call, and leave the announcement to you; its plan grid lists no consent announcement setting.

No separate telecom taxes

The Talkroute pricing FAQ says the monthly price is all-inclusive, with no separate charge for telecom taxes, the federal Universal Service Fund or other regulatory fees. At most providers, Phoner included, those lines add a noticeable share to the invoice, so Talkroute's headline price is closer to what you will actually pay.

Texting has an account cap and a registration fee

Texts are pooled per account: 500 a month on Basic, 2,000 on Plus and 5,000 on Pro, with an MMS counting as three. Local numbers must be 10DLC registered before texts deliver reliably, which costs a one-time $19 on Basic and $15 on Plus plus $1.50 a month on Basic, and is included on Pro. Toll-free registration is free on every plan.

A seven-day trial, then no refunds

Talkroute runs a seven-day trial and charges nothing if you cancel inside it. After that the FAQ is plain: refunds are not issued and partial months are not prorated. Plans are month to month, and annual billing is offered at a discount the page does not state, so ask for the annual figure in writing if you plan to commit.

Where Phoner is the better fit

A team that records calls for training or disputes and wants the line itself to play the consent announcement, with call analytics, ring groups, texting and the phone menu all on one $17 seat billed yearly, gets that on Phoner Team. You also get a shared voicemail inbox with CSV export and a weekly voicemail summary by email on every seat.

Where Talkroute is the better fit

If you are under twenty people, mostly forward calls to cell phones and want the lowest predictable bill, Talkroute is cheaper at every size we priced. It also includes video meetings and offers a HIPAA business associate agreement on Pro. Phoner has neither, and a medical or dental office that needs a BAA should buy Talkroute Pro.

Who should pick which

Pick Talkroute if

Pick Talkroute if price decides it. With three users bundled into Plus at $39 and ten into Pro at $59, it is cheaper than Phoner for every team we priced, it includes video meetings, its card says there are no separate telecom taxes, and it signs a HIPAA business associate agreement on Pro, which Phoner does not.

Their list price: $19-59/mo per account, users bundled

Pick Phoner if

Pick Phoner if your calls are recorded and you want the consent announcement handled by the line itself, on the same Team plan as the phone menu, ring groups, texting and call analytics. Team is $17 a seat billed yearly or $35 month to month, with a 3-user minimum.

Phoner: $9-17/user/mo yearly, $19-35 monthly

Line 04 Questions

Common questions about switching

How much does Talkroute cost?

Talkroute costs $19 a month for Basic with 1 user, $39 for Plus with 3 users and $59 for Pro with 10 users. Extra users, numbers and mailboxes are $5 a month each, and Enterprise for 20 or more users is priced by quote. The pricing page says no separate telecom taxes or USF charges are added.

Does Talkroute charge per user?

Not in the usual way. Each Talkroute plan is priced per account and includes a set number of users: 1 on Basic, 3 on Plus and 10 on Pro. Users above that cost $5 a month each. A user is a login to the apps, and calls can still forward to as many outside phones as you like.

Does Talkroute have a free trial?

Yes. Talkroute offers a seven-day trial, and if you cancel within those seven days you are not charged. After the trial, its FAQ says refunds are not issued and partial months are not prorated, so test call forwarding, the phone menu and texting inside the first week.

Does Talkroute have call recording?

Yes, on the Pro plan at $59 a month and on Enterprise. Recording covers inbound and outbound calls automatically, and Talkroute stores recordings without limit at no extra charge. Basic and Plus do not include recording. Talkroute advises following two-party consent rules, and its plan grid lists no built-in announcement.

Is Talkroute HIPAA compliant?

Talkroute lists account restrictions for HIPAA compliance on every plan, and a business associate agreement is available on Pro and Enterprise. A covered entity needs the signed BAA, so a medical or dental practice should budget for Pro at $59 a month. Phoner does not sign a BAA.

Is Talkroute a VoIP service?

Yes. Talkroute is a cloud virtual phone system that runs calls over the internet through its desktop, mobile and browser apps, and can also forward calls to any regular phone. You do not need a desk phone or on-site hardware, and most US and Canada numbers port in free in 3 to 5 business days.

Does Talkroute charge taxes and fees?

Its pricing page says no. Talkroute describes its monthly price as all-inclusive and says it does not add separate charges for telecom taxes, the Universal Service Fund or other regulatory fees. Optional add-ons are billed separately, and local number texting carries a one-time 10DLC registration fee on Basic and Plus.

What is the best Talkroute alternative?

For a team that records calls and wants the consent announcement and call analytics on the same plan as the phone menu, Phoner Team at $17 a seat billed yearly, with a 3-user minimum. For one person with forwarding only, Grasshopper is a flat-rate option. If price is all that matters, Talkroute itself is hard to beat.

Can I keep my number if I leave Talkroute?

Yes. Under FCC local number portability rules you can move your Talkroute numbers to another provider. Keep the Talkroute account active until the port completes, because closing it first can release the number. Porting into Phoner is free and your line keeps ringing until the cutover.
